The importance of training in Employees safety and health

When talking about Safety and Hygiene, as well as worker protection, the first thing that comes to mind for employers is personal protective equipment, since it is the most visible concept of job security.

However, before the personal protective equipment, considered as the last barrier in workplace safety training, there are several actions that we can do as initial safety barriers both in the source of risk and in the workplace, administrative actions in procedures and permits , changes in the way we do things, raw materials we use, machinery maintenance and various engineering controls that can be applied.

Within these, one of the areas that undoubtedly supports more in the reduction of accidents and occupational diseases is training.

Occupational accidents have their origin in the dangerous physical conditions that may exist in companies and unsafe acts performed by workers, however, in most cases the acts of workers are the determining element of accidents.

These actions are determined in large part because the worker has no knowledge about the safety measures applicable to his work, because he carries out activities other than those contracted or because “it was made easy for him”, all this can be diminished significantly with the appropriate training .

As for occupational diseases derived from the environmental conditions to which workers are exposed, it should be mentioned that the worker’s health is influenced by physical situations such as noise, lighting, ventilation and temperatures, chemical or biological agents and agents ergonomic

In these cases, the worker can acquire a work-related illness mainly due to the ignorance of the agents to which he is exposed and the appropriate measures for his protection.

In such a way that adequate training is the most conducive tool to teach workers the correct way to carry out their activities, having as a priority their own safety and the preservation of their state of health. From small and simple training on object handling, to ergonomic training, chemical manipulation, work in confined spaces, as well as some that seem ordinary but also have to know how for example the order and cleanliness that helps work faster and comfortably and in turn can avoid an accident.
